Kirby and I were instantly in love. Kirby sat behind me with Kinley in his arms and was playing with her already. He would touch her cheek and talk to her while she turned her head from side to side and stuck her tongue out at him.
She was in her bassinet, but she didn't spend much of the 3 days in the hospital in there. They finished things up below the blue curtain and it was time to go back to our L&D room for another hour or so. The nurses got to wheel me, and Kirby got to wheel little baby down in her plastic bin :). He was so proud of her.
Things were such a whirl-wind when we found out we were having our baby today. We were the only ones of our family in the state, so it was a really nice surprise when we got back to the room and my seastarrr was there waiting for us (I think might've been waiting for the baby more, but it's okay :) ). She had jumped the first flight in from AZ. Wooohoo thanks sissy!
A very very proud Auntie!!
I got to snuggle my little lady while I was not splayed out on an OR table for the first time. It was a nice relief, because when I was trying to hold her on my chest on the table my arms were shaking, and I still couldn't feel anything and was afraid I was going to drop her.
Not here though :)
Then Dave left and we were taken upstairs to our recovery room. I remember being wheeled around in the bed, we took an elevator, and then we arrived in our room. It was much much smaller than our L&D room, and there wasn't a rocking chair or anything like downstairs. We did have a sink w/ a counter top and one of those chairs that pulls out into a very uncomfortable bed - sorry Kirb and Ali.
Lots of people kept coming in to check on us, and putting warm blankets on me. I couldn't understand why they were stacking them up when I was completely drenched in sweat already and they told me that my body temp was like 84 degrees...oh...hrmmm...okay then I guess. After a couple hours everything was back to normal for the most part. I do not miss people coming in ever 30 mins or hour and pushing my belly down, or the spinal tap meds wearing off and feeling like I had been ripped in half at the lower abdomen. I also don't miss the tracking bracelets on Kinley's legs, it kept slipping down so the nurses would rush in and then yell at us hahaha oh well.
Baby stayed with us the whole time. She was always being held by mommy, daddy or auntie.
Such a sweet girl
My mom was jumping a flight from Florida that night and would be there the next day. She was so excited to see her grandbaby :)
She had her first bath the next day. She wasn't really feeling it though. She didn't like to be nakey at first and cold with the water. She likes her bath water really warm!!!
Her grandma showed up during her bath :) and got to watch through the nursery window. She had to stay in the nursery after her bath for a while to warm back up and do measurements. It was the first time she hadn't been in the room with us. I was pretty excited to see my mom. My first trip walking after the surgery was to the nursery pushing a wheel chair. They wheeled me back to the room afterwards. Hahaha...it was pretty painful and exhausting.
When they brought her back my mom got to hold her.And later that day Kirby's mom got there (I think, it might have been the next morning, I don't remember, but I think I have it right). Both grandmas were so excited to hold and see their granddaughter and I was excited to see baby girl have so much love from her grandparents. Friday her my dad got there, and he wore a mask because he had a cough :). It was cute! And that night her other grandpa got there!! They were both in love :) But she only had eyes for her daddy.
We started with formula in the hospital because Thursday she went 12 hours without eating. She just slept all day, and therefore she lost a lot of weight. Enough that the doctors were concerned with her eventually being jaundiced even though she wasn't at the time. We tried and tried to BF, and she had a freaking amazing latch, but apparently I'm just for looks! Haha - thanks boobs... **Spoiler Alert** I even pumped and pumped and pumped after we got home, but I never made enough to keep up with her so for my mental sanity and her health I decided after over 2 weeks to just use 100% formula. I know many out there wouldn't agree with my decision, but I stand behind it to this day. It was the best thing for everyone. **End Spoiler**
We had lots and lots of awesome visitors from our works come by during our 3 day stay. We loved seeing and visiting with our friends. Ali got a break from sleeping on the counter that connected to the sink - haha
We were finally released to go home on Saturday with a pediatric follow-up scheduled for Tuesday. And...we decided on a name...finally!!! I really wanted Kinley James, but conceded and agreed with Kirby on Kinley Marie...our little wiggle :).
She's perfect in every way :)
